When I started blogging a few months ago I hadn’t a clue what the hell I was going to write about! Now, 100+ followers and 80-odd posts later…I still don’t! (who knew I could talk so much hooey?)
First I’d like to say a massive THANKS!! to everyone that hit ‘follow’. I never intended to have more than 3 followers (me and 2 fake accounts that were also me just to get the numbers up) to be honest and all the positive feedback I’ve had from everyone has done wonders for my self esteem. There’s no way I could’ve done this a year ago.
As I cleaned the goldfish bowl this morning and pondered who’s been slipping bran flakes into the water (trust me, after one day that water is much too murky for a creature that size) I got to thinking, what’s the ‘theme’ of my little blog?
Unsurprisingly I came to the conclusion there is no theme. It’s pretty much just a scrapbook of the inside of my head.
But a couple of things I have noticed:
I try to steer clear of the negatives as much as possible. I feel there’s enough negativity out there and the minute I put it in writing and post, I’ve just cemented it’s ugly place in the world. But I assure you I am not Suzy Sunbeams 7 days a week. I’ve got the same real life hassles as everyone else despite my efforts to bang on the saucepan on my head to drown them out.
I also try to not think of the audience too much because it takes the craic out of the whole thing for me. Then when I get a like or a positive comment it makes my little day because I know the post was honestly me.
Some weeks I’m not in the form so don’t have much to say, then other times my head will be exploding with ideas and I’ll have loads to talk about.
Finally I had zero intention of writing any poetry. What a shocker that was! I was abysmal writing poetry in school and the minute I heard that final bell I tossed all notions of it on the bonfire of my school years and laughed like a crazed lunatic as it went up in smoke along with all memories of the German language and the university applications I didn’t even bother to complete.
By far the best thing about WordPress is the other bloggers! Sometimes I’ll be having a chat with someone on the other side of the world who I’ve never met and think: this is so effing cool!! Or when I’m drawing a blank I’ll read someone else’s post and get a flash of inspiration.
I think everyone should give blogging a go. Some people use it to clear their head (me), some share their journeys and educate the rest of us (A Guy Called Bloke), and some are stark raving mad and I thank the Lord they blog since it keeps them off the streets and the rest of us out of harm’s way (The Britchy One).
Whyever you might be tapping away at that keyboard, I’d like to raise my pint to you all and say keep it up ya good thing and thanks for reading my nonsense! Cheers!
P.S – Has anyone else’s blog changed in ways they didn’t expect??
Woo hoo!!! Congratulations!!! You really are a busy bee…i’m still on thirty something posts myself. Where do you find the time?! Please keep up the poetry 🙂

Awk cheers! I dunno how that happened tbh, I hardly ever look at stats, when I saw the amount of posts I was shocked! God help you all now I have an audience for my drivel 😂

I mean the purple background and swirly side-bar, by the way, obviously as well as your non-theme-theme for the blog 😉

Another excellent post IP [I call you you IP for the obvious reasons, but also because l don’t know if l should be referring to you by your real name, and not because l am name lazy :)]
Thank you for the tag, l appreciate it, but l agree if l wasn’t here tapping away l would be on the streets and with my tendency to be a clumsy nob l fear l could only endanger others to boot 🙂
Also, l agree with your theory on WordPress bloggers, l too am oft charmed by this community and find more peace with writing amongst other writers and creators than l find with other social platforms. My blog has changed substantially since l first created it last September – if not in recent weeks alone with the manual migration of my other two blogs, most assuredly from the initial concept.
In September l was an absolute mess, mentally. there will be very few followers who may recall my initial start up posts – and this is NOT saying they may not recall, but more along the lines of whether they actually read the content.
By November l had changed the direction of this blog, l had swung myself out of an alarmingly disturbing frame of mind, and used the vibrancy and community of WP to my advantage and decided to not write of woe and misery, but to lighten it all up and turn my negativity and my love fro writing into a positive strength.
However, like you, l too toast not just the other bloggers but you too – so thank you IP for your words of entertainment and wisdom in all that you also post, award yourself credit my dear Faffer – you are a light in the darkness 🙂

Awk jeez I can’t believe you said that! I’m welling up, honest! Thank you!
I think I’m a bit like yourself, I try to turn the icky thinks into something creative.
For me, it’s definitely the best social platform…I love how people manage to get their views across here in a considerate way unlike the hell that is Crapbook (even though I’m on it all the time)
Re: my name, IP suits me down to the ground for bloggy purposes, however I’ll quite happily answer to the name Miss Lola Lasagna if you ever fancy a change 😁

Awk Jeez shuckalucks!
Every word meant IP although l am leaning more towards Miss Lola Lasagna – that has a rather tasty theme going for it … mm!
LOL! 🙂
Oh yes, Crapbook, l too am there, but l don’t dilly dally for long, tis full of misery – not my page, l just throw a bit of that, a smattering of this and sometimes a whisper or too for good measure.
Keep the poetry going 🙂

I hate labels… I don’t want my blog to be categorised under a certain theme (although like it or not I am inevitably labelled as an “expat blogger”). My favourite blogs are those that don’t have a specific theme and just throw in a little bit of everything. And I LOVE your poetry. Please keep doing what you’re doing!
I use my blog to clear my head and get my thoughts out. Sadly that means I am not always positive. I get what you’re saying about cementing negativity in the world, but in the absence of any friends or family nearby sometimes my blog is the only place I *can* talk about the bad stuff… and I find blog readers give the best advice!

But that’s the joy of it! Everyone can do their own thing, there’s no set way, just whatever works for you. Beats the hell out of sitting in a shrinks office!
Also, I really admire your honesty about your life. I was very isolated not so long ago and I don’t think I would have had the courage to share it. I just soldiered on unhappily whereas maybe if I had enough taken a page from your book I would’ve felt better. So don’t go changing!!

I don’t have a theme, a niche – whatchamacallit! I started as a kind of a ear diary, a way of remembering stuff and amusing a couple of friends who bagged me for ages to ‘write that shit down!’
I enjoy it, I’ve met so many people here that I love love love chatting to and reading their blogs. I dont go on ftwo-Facebook as much anymore for several reasons. Largely because it’s more fun here though and I agree with avoiding negativity!!

That was a fun read. And your comment about Miss Britchy was perfect; I hadn’t considered that upside, and it cracked me up. Now I’m off to check out The Bloke.
Keep writing. And thanks for this.

Congratulations!!! I absolutely adore your blog. And yes miss britchy ….well she’s a live one! But I would love to follow her around for a day and see how her brain works. I’m so envious! I love your posts and I so look forward every day to reading what all my blogging friends are writing about. I only started because so many people told me I needed to write my experiences down before I forget them. Age does have a way of making you do that….forget I mean. Congrats again and here’s to the next 100!

Thank you so much! I’ve started flicking through your posts, I may be here a while…I don’t know if I would follow Britchy too much, I’d be afraid I might see something that I would have to testify about at a later date! 😂

Congrats!! I love poetry bc its one of those things that everyone thinks is hard but its actually incredibly easy! And you’ve got a talent for it too. You should check it out this book called Why Poetry, it goes over how poetry has been made into this academic, elite form of writing that only a few can do, but in reality its an art form for anyone and everyone. 🙂

Nice one I’ll definitely look it up! I agree it is easy once you get into the swing of it. I used to think it had to be this meaningful in-depth insight to the soul…yawn! 😂 Hope you’re doing well btw!

I can be guilty of being negative. But it’s my way to “raise awareness” in a way. The more you know about evil, the better you are at fighting it.
I’m glad to see that your blog has been evolving. I think it’s a good thing. We change every day (in a way). If our blogs didn’t, it would be weird.
I didn’t think I would be writing poetry, either. I’ve started creative writing a few months after the beginning of my blog. But I’m still working on it. I feel like I need to stop writing it on a computer. I mean, write it on paper first, then transfer it over. I’ve noticed the difference (in my perceived quality) between some piece of mine. Do you write yours on paper first, or do you just type away onto the computer straight from your head?

Being negative isn’t a thing to feel guilty about! It’s just something that I have chosen to avoid is all. We all walk a different path!
I do everything on my phone because it’s always to hand but I keep a book of quotes and phrases that I like to dip into from time to time. I don’t have a computer and I love the phone because when I’m out walking I can add my ideas. But hey ho it’s not for everyone

I tried the “raising awareness” route myself and found that people weren’t tolerant.
So now I’ve accepted it’s not my responsibility to make people understand, it’s my responsibility to find my own happiness.
But like I said we all follow very different paths and I admire and support those who continue to educate the world so keep it up!!!

You do have a valid point there. It’s a fine balance.

I started as I had so much to say about unnecessary information about myself, the desert and food. It then grew to unsolicited advice for parents and other stuff like dead mermaids.
Congrats to you!
