The Song Off!

After a hectic and fun filled few days galloping around after the Easter Bunny with a large fishing net for I’m currently catching up on nominations and everyone else’s weekend posts.

I have to say, I’m not a fan of Easter. The pubs close early, I don’t like chocolate so much (yes…I know, I am an abomination and a disgrace to the female community) and it’s the ‘done thing’ in my neck of the woods that you make a Sunday dinner.

I like to retaliate by staying till last orders, ordering a pizza and binge watching bad movies.

I’m telling ya, they should hold the next Olympics in Belfast centre during Easter weekend. The speed with which we sprint to the next late hour pub to catch an extra hour of Guinness time is truly unequaled.

Sorry Usain, no way can you beat the Irish when they hear the shutters about to come down at the end of the night.

But onto the Song Off! I was nominated for this one by Swerve Strikes Again and to be honest all I can say is feck ya because you started off with a couple of crackers that are hard to fecking beat. Damn you woman and your great musical tastes!!

The Rules:

• Choose a song that beats the nominators choice…doesn’t matter if its a cover, its about performance, lyrics and feeling the groove! Name it!

• Nominate 3 fellow bloggers (let them know you’ve challenged them).

• Add the previous song choice so that bloggers can see how it compares to what you’ve picked to beat it.

• Add a fourth genre to the mix (the idea is that the nominee picks three out of the 4 genres to song-off with you) adding to the variety.

Genre 1: Soul

(Swerve chose Barry White: My First My Last My Everything)

Otis Redding – Try A Little Tenderness from the movie The Commitments

Genre 2: Love Song

(Swerve’s was Bon Jovi: Always)

This was was soooo hard but it’s gotta be Auqalung Brighter Than Sunshine.

Genre 3: Grunge

(Swerve picked Nirvana: The Man Who Sold The World)

I’m gonna run with Soundgarden Black Hole Sun.

Bonus Genre:

90s Rock: Foo Fighters Monkey Wrench

I love me a bit of Dave Grohl!

So onto my nominees!!!

I hope you don’t mind if I put my oar in and have a go too? It just sounded too much fun not to have a go. You can just send me to coventry if you like.
Genre 1: Soul

Ain’t no stopping us now – McFadden & Whitehead
Genre 2: Love Song

Three times a lady – The Commodores
I can’t do grunge I’m afraid.
But I have a great entry for the Empowered category:
Sisters are Doin’ it for themselves – Aretha Franklin featuring the Eurythmics.
Hope you like.

Do I mind! No of course I don’t! I’m chuffed you have given it a go! I can’t recall your first choice so I am going to have to go and take a listen shortly. Three times a lady; fabulous and I LOVE your empowered selection! Aretha and the Eurythmics, great song!

      1. Wow, what can I say. I gave them a proper listen. I was in the land of nod last night when you posted. The Commitments (A-Mazing), Black Hole Sun (TUNE) and Foo Fighters (EPIC). I saw the Foo Fighters at Leeds Festival a few years back and they were unbelievable!!! I tried to get tickets for Manchester this year (FAILED). Love your choices… girl done good!!

  1. So that’s why Usain retired, he was challenged to a pub crawl in Belfast? Cowardly.
I’m a bit too old for a lot of the music – does anyone REALLY like Barry White…? Give me Led Zeppelin any day.

  2. Great song choices! I can’t believe you don’t like chocolate . I have well-trained parents who bring me creme eggs with extra creme eggs on the side as I cannot get them over here (and Swiss chocolate is all very well, but it doesn’t hold a candle to Cadbury’s!). Rushing to last orders is extremely good for your health – it’s surely very beneficial exercise 😉 Thank you very much for the nomination. I will see if I am brave enough to take part later in the week 🙂
