Late last night, me and the Voice who lives in my head were just settling down for the night and who should rap the door but my good old pal Insomnia?! Lucky old me!
Well we sat alllllll night long together, sharing old stories and remembering the good times until I was sat there with my eyes crossing. Finally I had to put the foot down and shunt the pair of them out the front door (some people just never know when to leave!).
After a generous 17 seconds of sleep I woke looking like the Creature of the Black Lagoon. Actually that’s an understatement, the Creature looked like Gisele Bündchen compared to me this morning.
Me at 9.05am today.
Later on, sporting some lovely dark bags under my eyes and a ghoulish open-mouthed expression (complete with lolling tongue) I decided it was time to go out and terrify the good people of Belfast – I have my walking challenge to attend to after all. So I fortified myself with 74 cups of military grade coffee, tucked my tongue back in and hit the streets.
It wasn’t so bad, I was only chased with flaming torches and pitchforks for a couple of streets. I eventually managed to placate the townsfolk by agreeing to ring a bell and shout “THE MONSTER APPROACHES!” for the rest of the day.
Keeping a firm clamp on my bell, I went for a little saunter around one of my favourite bookshops and picked up a couple of new reads:
The Aliens Are Coming – Ben Miller
Arrival – Ted Chiang
I’ve been meaning to read Arrival for a while because I thought the movie was brilliant. I’m only a few chapters in but it’s gotten my attention, I love getting excited about a new book.
As for The Aliens Are Coming….I was considering popping a small note in the post to Mr Miller to say not to worry himself – I’m already here….but I wouldn’t like to disrupt his future book sales.
All in all not a bad old day, but I’ll be keeping the front door locked tonight.
Walk All Over Cancer update:
• Steps walked so far today: 12,376
• Steps walked so far this week: 55,337
• Steps to walk by Wednesday: 14,663
• Today’s walking weather: Puddle free!! Brisk but blue-skied!
• Other information: I passed a film crew today, mid-shoot! I quickly hid my bell, stuck my arms out in front and dragged one leg behind me in case I get a part as an extra on the Walking Dead! Looking like the back end of a bus may have its uses after all!
Proof of no puddles.
